A sustainable life with Shiva Rose Beauty

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

I mist my face with my Radiant Rose Water, get up to do some Ayurevdic oil pulling, then sit for tea meditation with Living tea after a short Kundalini set. Next, I use my Glow Balm on the face before getting my daughter and animals up and about. I wake upon sunrise to accomplish all this.

What are you having for breakfast?

After a glass of celery juice, I favour a granola with yogurt and fruit or a Eikorn bread toasted with butter.

What is your daily beauty routine?

I wash my face with the Pearl Milk Cleanser because its gentle and will protect the microbiome of the skin. Next, I religiously use my Glow Balm or Rose Face Oil, followed by a Strawberry Serum made with stem cells and amino acids. This is the best way to hydrate and protect the skin from pollution and early aging. Each evening, I use baths as my form of therapy when I light a candle, play mantras, and release any negativity with the sacred flow of water. I use my salts and sea siren scrub – made with lemongrass and algae – to release negative energy. Finally, I apply I my Golden Sol Body Butter or Venus Body Oil to anoint my limbs before bed.

How would you describe your day to day style?

I was an actress in my former life, so I love being a storyteller. I use clothing as a medium for this, as at times I feel a bohemian, vintage dress is in order with some chic sandals… other times it may be a more refined , tailored look, for example what a lady may be wearing out riding on her estate, It depends what story I am telling. I more heavily gravitate towards natural fibers in summer, coming from lovely lines in California like my Friends at Doen and Awave/Awake to name a few. I so adore Ulla Johnson and Mara Hoffman for Fall, favouring the beautiful high end quality of The Row, as well.

Do you have kids? If so, how do you incorporate a sustainable routine with them?

I have an older daughter I had fairly young and a 13 year old. I like introducing my children to a routine that makes me – who can tend to be ungrounded – have a strong system of scheduling. I work at home, so my day usually starts when my youngest goes to school, then in the evening will focus on dinner and homework. We love road trips, and try to take mini ones from time to time.

Do you have any personal life hacks for getting through the day in the most sustainable way possible?

Yes, I take lots of tinctures and tonics to ensure my nervous system is calm and efficient. Now with all the EMF radiation, and stress of modern life, we need help that adaptogens like ashwagandha, shatavari, and Pine pollen proactively aid. I also take tinctures of certain mushrooms like Lions Mane and Reishi. Water is most crucial to our well being, so I implemented an amazing system that does reverse osmosis but remineralizes after the filtration.

How do you wind down at the end of the day?

Usually a cup of nettle or oatstraw tea in the later afternoon for the nervous system. Then some chocolate. Then the divine bath after dinner.

What’s dinner time look like for you?

My partner is in Texas – so when I am with him we eat a good steak he prepares on the fire. When I am home with my girls, I cook what is seasonal at the Farmers Market. I love to roast vegetables from my garden and make soups and stews in the winter months…freshly baked bread with lots of butter too!

What’s your night-time beauty ritual?

I like to give a list of thank you’s for what may have happened in the day, which I do in my head before I slumber…they say the way you go to sleep can affect the way you awake the next day. I will wash my face and once a week use my Saffron Rose Scrub to gently exfoliate, followed by the Cosmic Eye Serum and Rose Quartz Eye Buds to decrease puffiness.

What does sustainability mean to you?

Sustainability is not just a phase or trend – it is a way of life. Everything we eat, buy, wear, and live with can have some consciousness in it for the planet. I do what I can. I still drive a car, however I take mason jars to the market and buy in bulk to keep away from plastics. I’ve always been connected deeply to the natural world and at young age wanted to help our Gaia somehow.

What drives you to live a sustainable life?

Ever since I was a wee lass and would cry when I saw trees cut, I have been indebted to our planet. I try to grow my own food and I used to have chickens and honey bee hives that connect me to the rhythm of the earth.

Right now more than any other time, we need to make our dollars and voices count. The tragic fires globally, and the hurricanes and heat waves cannot be ignored any longer. I truly feel all the illnesses right now – like autoimmune conditions, cancer, Lyme etc. – are a direct mirror of what is happening to our earth. We must do a little bit in our daily life. Even buying organic can make a huge difference. I read that if the world is 14% organic, we can lessen the impact and control of the toxic agriculture corporations.
