Interview Avec Tata Harper

We chat to the pioneering founder behind this organic beauty brand all things natural.

What does your daily beauty routine look like?

I love the ritual of layering many products. I always exfoliate in the morning with Regenerating Cleanser to remove build up and prevent dullness. At night I double cleanse with the Nourishing Oil Cleanser and Purifying Cleanser then sweep Concentrated Brightening Essence over my face. I apply Elixir Vitae Serum on my face and Boosted Contouring Serum on my neck, followed by a thick layer of Boosted Contouring Eye Mask around my eyes. I finish with a nutrient-packed layer of Replenishing Nutrient Complex.

What does living a sustainable lifestyle mean to you?

Living sustainably means living according to the realities of the world today, where you’re conscious that every single action you take, every day that you’re in this world has an impact. Being conscious of the importance of every action means that the smallest changes can make a difference, everything from recycling to avoiding wasteful packaging when possible, to using renewable sources of energy, getting recyclable office supplies, wearing sustainable clothing and eating organic food grown with Earth-friendly sustainable farming practices.

When and why did you decide you wanted to share natural beauty products with the world?

My stepfather was diagnosed with cancer and started getting sick in 2003. Through helping him transition to a healthier more natural lifestyle, I realised how many harmful ingredients I was putting on my skin every day, but I couldn’t find anything on the market that was natural, effective, and gave me the luxury experience I was used to. When I started thinking about Tata Harper Skincare my husband asked me, ‘does the world need another beauty product?’ For me it’s not about creating another beauty product but about creating solutions for people that make their lives better.

What is the best lesson you’ve learned along the way of starting and running this company?

Starting a company is really hard. You need to be super passionate and stay really, really positive, especially if you’re trying to change the way a business or industry has been for years – people will tell you no, but if you have something that is different and special and you are passionate about it, then all the no’s don’t matter.

Tell us about the positive effects of natural and non-toxic skincare for your skin? What makes Tata Harper Skincare products better than regular skincare?

Products that contain only natural ingredients that are biocompatible with your skin can absorb better and work best with your skin’s natural processes. All of our ingredients are always natural, so our biggest priority is quality. We use only ingredients of the highest possible level of quality and purity, and because we do everything in-house we are able to ensure that they are handled properly and you are getting the most benefits out of each ingredient. Unlike many brands that only use 1-3 active ingredients, we always include as many high-performance ingredients as possible so you get the maximum benefits from our products – the Elixir Vitae Serum has 38! We also batch all of our products in-house monthly, so they are fresh when they reach our customers.

When is a beauty product perfect?

We feel a product is ‘perfect’ and a formulation is complete when we’ve included all of the ingredients we can possibly fit to achieve the desired benefits, when we love the application and the way that it penetrates into the skin, and most importantly when we see amazing results and love how it makes us feel.

What part of the production process are you the proudest of?

When it’s done! Seeing the fully packaged cartons heading out of our warehouse to the rest of the world is so rewarding and exciting.

What / who inspires you to keep doing what you do?

My customers who tell me they love what I’m doing and who need solutions that will keep them beautiful and healthy.

A lot of companies advertise that they are (partially) green (green washing), but actually use this as a marketing trick, what do you think about that?

I think it’s very deceitful and very confusing to the customer, who at the end of the day is getting the worst end of the deal by thinking they’re buying something that they’re not.

Why is it important for the world and environment that people start using and producing natural and non-toxic skincare?

The more we can reduce the toxic load in our bodies and in the environment the more we’ll be able to look forward to long, healthy, less polluted lives. It’s a win-win for everybody.
