REV’s Green Guide To Copenhagen

REV's Green Guide to Copenhagen

The Spring Edition

Often coined the ‘Happy Capital’, this Scandi Cool city has a ton to offer, from chic architecture and versatile cuisine to enviable street style. It’s also praised as being climate friendly, and ahead of the game with an apparel industry that considers the planet and the population. So it’s no coincidence that the world’s leading business event on sustainability in fashion will take place there on May 15th for the tenth year running. If you’re heading to the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, or simply fancy a green getaway and need some inspiration as to what to wear and where to go, this guide’s for you…

Morning: Brunch At Artelier September

Famous for its traditional poppy seed rolls and plentiful plant-based dishes (avocado on rye being the most popular choice), the centrally based coffee haven is a must for artisinal brunch lovers. It is also situated right next door to Studio X Viaduct, a design studio selling handcrafted minimalist furnishings, so swing by afterwards for some one-of-a-kind finds.

What To Wear: Linen and Leather

In a city where the mantra is ‘less is more’, and the vibe is understated elegance, we recommend keeping it simple with warm, neutral tones and relaxed silhouettes. Terracotta and camel are the two shades dominating our colour palettes this month, and this Arkitaip blouse/Aagé bag combo is a particular favourite. Finish off the look with a matching linen hair scrunchy, courtesy of Arkitaip’s admirable reluctance to waste any fabric.

Afternoon: A trip to the Design Museum

Immerse yourself in Scandinavian design culture by paying a visit to the Design Museum, our favourite innovation spot for everything from transport, to furniture, to fashion.  Follow this with a trip to the 400 year old Rosenborg Castle for some picturesque views. If you’re peckish later on we recommend an afternoon snack at Acacia…in particular their vegan snickers bar (we also advise keeping one in your hotel room fridge for a late night snack!)

What To Wear: Structured Simplicity

The Laure wrap skirt by Yoli and Otis takes centre stage in this laid-back sight-seeing ensemble.  Crafted from naturally dyed, low impact linen; she’ll help you feel truly at home in a culture where style goes hand-in-hand with sustainability. Pair her with a black bodysuit or turtleneck to create the perfect blank canvas for some statement accessories, like these recycled brass earrings by Soko.

Evening: Dinner at Väkst

Housed inside a stunning three-storey building decked out with reclaimed furniture, Väkst is a green gastronomical destination offering traditional Nordic cuisine as well as history and charm.  Choose from a range of locally sourced dishes like grilled celeriac and oyster mushrooms. The restaurant is also committed to producing as little waste as possible, ranking it high up on our list of eco eateries. There’s even an indoor greenhouse…the fruit and veg doesn’t get more home-grown than this!

What To Wear: Timeless Tassels

A pearly, tasselled take on the classic LBD; the Jade dress by Mother Of Pearl is created from an organic blend of wool and cotton. She also has a thick, fringed belt that ties at the centre front to give your waist some definition whilst making you feel like you’re dining in a stylish dressing gown.  Add a touch of red to your lips and bronze to your eyelids to pay this piece some compliments. The below look is achieved using the ‘Classic’ liner and the ‘Grace’ shadow by natural Danish cosmetics label Kjaer Weis.

Cocktails At The Apollo

No European city break would be complete without at least one evening of cocktails on a well-lit patio, or inside a vibrant bar, depending on the weather.  For this, we recommend The Apollo. Modern and minimal with plenty of creative flair; this space is filled with colourful furniture inherited from the art school it sits beside, as well as elegant plaster-cast statues – a nod to the rich history of the surrounding area, Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

What To Wear: Head To Toe Red

We have a thing for linen at the moment, especially in this shade. All of Arkitaip’s pieces are crafted from linen certified with the ‘Masters Of Linen’ mark; ensuring that the fabric is of the highest ecological and social standards. They’re also 100% stonewashed and designed to flatter; much like the beautiful bandeau pictured below. Give your nails a coating or two of Kure Bazaar’s natural nail polish in Masai…because co-ordination is key…sometimes.
