Riley’s Street Style Guide

Riley's Street Style Guide

After welcoming some incredible new pieces by Riley Studio to our site, we caught up with founder, Riley Uggla, to discover her journey towards designing and creating loungewear from recycled materials and natural fabrics, as well as to find out how she likes to style one of her chic oversized white tees with her selection of REV.

What inspired you to begin your own sustainable fashion label?

“I’ve been in the industry for a couple of years now and it taught me that we all have to collectively make a positive change to the fashion industry to hinder the negatives impact we are having on the world around us. The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world but that shouldn’t be the case. I wanted to show people that sustainable fashion is possible and style doesn’t need to compromised.”

It is important to us that the fabrics we use are durable and versatile so that the clothes we make are designed for life, not just a season."

Where is your clothing made and how do you go about sourcing your materials?

“We currently use two factories in Portugal, which we ensured were SMETA audited. Come November, we’re really excited to say we’re working on a limited edition run of outerwear pieces that have been made in East London. This was a really important step for us to experiment with, so that we could try and reduce the carbon footprint of our products from the factory to our warehouse.

In terms of sourcing, as a team we are continuously researching eco-innovative fabrics. We spent 9 months researching the current fabrics we use, which include Q-NOVA® by Fulgar, ECONYL® yarn, Lyocell, rPET, and organic cotton. We’re always on the lookout for more eco-innovative fabrics though!
