About The Brand
Started by Ida Skarp in 2020 in Zürich, Seela Studio was founded to encourage women to strengthen their body and mind with clean and natural products. Seela combines modern science with refined design, to create thoughtful activewear essentials that last. All of us at Rêve are passionate about exercise – not to look a certain way but to feel like our strongest and healthiest selves. When we discovered Seela, we knew we had found the perfect activewear brand. Seela believes that the benefits of naturally grown materials in clothing far outweigh the short-term gains of low production costs. Seela always put material and longevity before gain and profit.
The Reason We Need Seela
Most activewear is made from synthetic fabrics – often materials derived from plastics. Every time we wash our synthetic clothing, around 9 million microfibers are released. Recently scientists found that in 80% of people they tested, tiny particles of microplastics were found in their blood. Microplastics have even been found in both the fetal and maternal sides of placenta. Microplastics are a huge concern – for our health and the planet. Over 8,000 synthetic chemicals are being used in the fashion industry today [Common Objective] and plastic makes up over 60% of the materials that are used to make our clothing [UN Environment]. I’m sure you’ll recognize some of these plastic materials – lycra, nylon, acrylic, polyamide, and polyester. Plastic fibers have been found in the sediment surrounding beaches, mangroves, in arctic ice, at the top of the Himalayas, and in the deepest point of the ocean. [Ocean Clean Wash].
Microplastics are incredibly dangerous for the human body – if you expose the immune system to plastics, our dendritic cells (which break down bacteria) engulf the plastic particles and fail to break down the plastic. This leads to inflammation in the body and chronic inflammation is known to lead to an array of disorders and diseases. The anti-odor chemical, nanoparticle silver, which is known to cause hormone issues and DNA damage and Triclosan, which has been linked to different cancers [ReMake]. These small plastic pieces are truly poisonous, for us and our Earth.

Why Seela is different
Seela has partnered with No More Plastic – a non-profit foundation that helps to protect our oceans and spread awareness about plastic and microplastic pollution, while advocating for healthier alternatives. Seela donates a minimum of 2% of all sales in the Purifying Blue colour to No More Plastic! Seela goes beyond plastic free. Seela donates another 2% of all sales of the colour Restorative Green to the Gula Gula Forest Project. They have committed to contributing about 17 hectares of land for 2022 and 2023. A total of 1500-2000 trees are planted per hectare, which means between 25,500 and 34,000 trees and 20 families will directly benefit from Seela each year. Their color Energizing Red donates the same percentage to Solar Sister each year too, as energy consumption is a massive concern of Seela’s. The brand already works with solar-powered factories, reuses water during the washing process, uses a dying process that requires a low water and energy consumption, maintains climate-neutral shipping, and sources all their materials in Europe. Even though Seela is one of the most transparent and truly sustainable brands on the market – they are always striving to do more. All Seela activewear is made from sustainably-sourced and biodegradable castor bean fiber, which is certified by DIN CERTCO nad OEKO-TEX STF 100 CLASS I systems. They also use natural bonanicle dyes that are 100% nontoxic and free from any harmful chemicals.
