Emma Elwin In Our Ren Sustainable Fashion Exclusive
In this editorial we chat to Emma Elwin, a beautiful ethical influencer and co-founder of the sustainable style platform, Make It Last. At REV we have been inspired by Emma for a long time, not only for her incredible style, but for her drive and enthusiasm in encouraging a more considered, conscious lifestyle. So we were very happy to learn all about her sustainable daily rituals and how she is coping with staying at home at this time.
Where is home for you?
Home is our apartment which is located in an old porslin factory in the arkipelag of Stockholm. This is the place I’ve felt most at home – living here is a bliss, close to the ocean and nature, and close to the big city.
How are you beginning the mornings to start the day off right at this time?
Right now we are being woken up by our three year old that wakes up way too early. Coffee is paramount and after that we start making breakfast for the whole family – human and dogs!
What is motivating you at the moment?
Having more time with my family and finding ways to make ends meet during the ongoing crisis. I hope that the summer will make things clearer.
What is your normal style mantra?
Less is more. Sorry to say so but I’m really lazy when it comes to dressing and have been re-using all my uniforms for the past years.
What has your wardrobe consisted of whilst isolating at home?
Since my everyday style pretty much consists of loungewear, the past weeks haven’t look that different for me. I might have been wearing my pyjamas more though.
What are life’s small pleasures for you right now?
The little joys right now are that we are waiting for a puppy to come join us this week. I’ve been wanting to get another one for ages and when this lockdown started and both my husband and I started working from home, we seised the opportunity. So if all goes well, we’ll be living puppy life all summer.
Do you have any health or wellness tips that you are following?
Right now we just go for long walks with our dog, all of my routines (that I’m really bad at entertaining as it is) have gone out the window. We are trying to keep spirits up and stay sane by watching cooking shows and comedies.
What has been your favourite thing to cook / eat?
I love pretty much everything my husband makes, the other day he made a mushroom Thai soup that was amazing. But if I would have to choose one thing I’d say that eggplant sichuan dumplings is my favourite food in this world.
How are you winding down at the end of the day?
I wish my answer was by meditating or some thing else that feels more meaningful – but right now I’m watching puppy videos on Instagram followed by an episode of Brooklyn99. I did just get an amazing lavender pillow spray that makes me so calm.
Finally, what does sustainability mean to you in these unprecedented times?
I saw this quote that Amy from Mother of Pearl just shared that said, ‘Its like Mother Earth just sent us all to our room to think about what we have done.’ And that really summarises how I feel about the situation at large – nature is struggling and humankind need to make big changes to prevent an even bigger crises that is extreme climate change. I think this whole thing will lead to less unnecessary travel but fear that governments will have their hands full with the financial crises from all this and less focus on the climate.
