Ingredient Spotlight on Amodern Alchemy’s Super Human Powder
Following the launch of Amodern Alchemy’s Superhuman Essential Powder on our site, we were keen to know more about some of the benefits of its incredible organic ingredients. In this editorial our Wellness Editor Taylor talks us through the ingredients and why exactly they make such a wonderful addition to our daily wellness ritual.
“Plants are not simply food, fuel, or even unwelcome garden guests: they are our healers.”
Plant Magic, Christine Buckley
Plants As Healers
I am continuously in awe of plants and their medicinal properties. As the inspiring Christine Buckley said in her amazing book, Plant Magic, “plants are not simply food, fuel, or even unwelcome garden guests: they are our healers.” Some have doubt that plants can have healing effects, yet we know humans have had recorded and vital relationships with plants medicines since at least 5,000 BC, and oral stories and traditions that suggest humans have used plants as medicine since the beginning of our time on this planet. “Plants were there at the beginning, they’ll be there at the end, and it’s in everyone’s best interest to figure out how to invite them into all the places in between.” [source: Plant Magic, Christine Buckley]
Many of us don’t realise the benefits of the things we eat, the herbs in our garden, and the weeds growing on the side of the road or in our nearby park. As Amodern Alchemy’s Superhuman powder has just launched on REV, I wanted to break down some of my favourite organic ingredients in this powder. For years, I have searched for one supplement or powder that contained all the ingredients that this specific powder is formulated with!
Mushrooms
While I could eat mushrooms for every meal, they are not always everyone’s cup of tea. However, the medicinal properties of many different mushrooms are endless, and I believe we should be incorporating them into our wellness practices. The Amodern Alchemy powder contains all of my favourite mushrooms in just one place. The formula contains “an army of Chaga, Reishi and Shiitake work synergistically to support the immune system, lower cortisol and provide adrenal support. Turkey tail and Lion’s Mane both contain prebiotics for optimal gut health. A touch of L theanine balances mood swings and may help to stabilize sleep patterns.” [source: Amodern Alchemy]
The mushrooms in this powder have amazing anti-inflammatory powers, which most of us need in our daily routines. Inflammation in the body can cause an array of skin issues, like acne and psoriasis so it is key to prevent inflammation in the gut.
Ashwagandha
You’ve probably heard that you should be taking ashwagandha or maybe you are already taking it, but you don’t really know why. “Ashwagandha is a calming adaptogen that balances the immune system and works as a nervine,” meaning it can work wonders to calm stress and mild anxiety [source: Amodern Alchemy].
Personally, I find it really helps me stay focused during my work hours and helps keep my mood up, even on grey winter days in London. Like mushrooms, ashwagandha is also amazing for bringing down inflammation in the body. It is even been shown to treat arthritis, which causes painful inflammation in the joints.
Astragalus & Ginseng
Astragalus is a Chinese flowering perennial plant that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to increase stamina and strength. It is also amazing for boosting your immune system, especially if you are emotionally stressed or facing environmental stressors from living in a polluted city, this herb can help you strengthen your defenses [source: Memorial Sloan Kettering]. The perfect herb to take if you can feel yourself coming down with a cold or even during a cold to shorten its lifetime.
Ginseng is an Asian root, which has been used for centuries to treat an array of issues. I’m so glad it is in this super powder because of its amazing benefits. It not only boosts energy but helps to also boost the immune system and lowers blood sugar levels. It is also known to be quite the aphrodisiac and is often recommended for anyone with a low sex drive. Together astragalus and ginseng work brilliantly to truly kickstart the immune system and decrease mild stressors.
