1. Switch Off

We can’t talk about a mindful sleep hygiene checklist without talking about our phones!  I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but turning off your phone, computer, and TV can be a major help when it comes to getting to sleep. According to the Sleep Foundation, most of our electronics, which emit blue light, have been known to “reduce or delay the natural production of melatonin in the evening and decrease feelings of sleepiness.”

When you get into bed at night, instead of scrolling through your phone try leaving it in another room to totally disconnect and relax before bed. I like to take this time to read the book I have on the go, and usually, I fall asleep with it still in my hands!

2. Take A Moment

If I’m really struggling to sleep, it is usually because I have a lot on my mind. I think this is an issue for most at the moment. After I turn off my phone, I love to make my bedroom a calm environment.  I like to light my Smokeless Ritual Incense in Calm by Bodha, which spreads notes of lavender, clary sage, and rosewood. Dimming the lights and lighting a natural candle can also do wonders for calming the eyes, and therefore the mind.

After my environment is as calming as possible, I like to cover my eyes with my Eye Pillow by Bodha. This weighted pillow helps to release tension in the eyes and face, while the relaxing scent calms. I love using the Calm app as they have guided meditations, calming music, and more to help you clear your mind and truly relax. We also love an organic, loose leaf tea blend to help calm the mind and soothe the soul. The Heartfelt Tea by Wilder is a team favourite, and beautiful to steep for an added nighttime ritual.

3. Get Cosy

Once I started investing in my bedding, I noticed a huge difference in my sleep. The organic and plant dyed collection by Aizome is not only absolutely beautiful but incredibly comfortable too. Free from petrochemicals, microplastics, allergens and toxins, AIZOME’s Organic Sheet Sets are perfect for eczema, sensitive skin, or anyone seeking a total toxin-free sleep sanctuary.

I’ve made getting ready for bed a ritual that calms me. Part of this ritual is putting on my ridiculously comfortable pajamas from General Sleep. I only sleep in white which is why I love this set! They are made from sustainably sourced, handwoven fabric that is a mid-weight, making them perfect for any season.

4. Invest in Tinctures & Remedies

I have a tincture for everything, and I find them to be a wonderful tool. One of my favourite adaptogen tinctures is the Reishi uper mushroom from Rainbo. Known as the elixir of immortality, reishi has a plethora of benefits. It is wonderful for easing a stressed mind and body, which ultimately promotes sleep.

On my bedside you’ll find the Drops+ Sleep tincture by Plant People. A full spectrum of hemp extract, high in CBD and CBN, this remedy promotes tranquil and restorative rest. I use this one specifically when my mind is racing, and I can’t seem to be able to calm my thoughts – we all have those nights.*

Another wonderful option is Plant People’s Be Calm Capsules, a daily supplement formulated with CBD, adaptogen and nervine herbs that work to modulate stress response to promote a general feeling of calm and peace of mind.*
