Our Sustainable Guide To French Girl Dressing
We all know and love the classic French girl style, many of us already live by certain principles when it comes to styling and many of those principles can be seen originating from the Parisiennes themselves. These days we like to take inspiration from some of the most iconic French girls to grace modern media: Jeanne Damas, Audrey Tautou, Caroline De Maigret, to name a few. However what we here at REV want to bring you today is a sustainable alternative to all your favourite classic French pieces. From the perfect jean to a bold red lip, we’ve brought you our favourite sustainable lines to help you re-create the French look consciously!
Gemma, REV Creative Editor
We start with one of the most iconic French patterns: the stripe. Our new Navygrey striped sweater is the perfect addition to your French wardrobe. Made from 100% British wool certified by Woolmark. Another of our striped favourites, is the With Nothing Underneath Boyfriend Shirt in Poplin Royal Blue Stripe. The perfect 2 in 1 being both striped and a button down shirt, another classic French piece.
The Perfect Jean
One of the most underestimated French girl staple is a good pair of denim. Seen in almost every outfit, the jean could be of any shade, including black and white, which we personally love. E.L.V. Denim is our long term favourite denim line, not just because they make any figure look incredible. E.L.V. Denim operate from an ideal of ‘no waste’ and create their jeans using discarded denim which otherwise could be destined for landfill.
A Bold Red Lip
The look is never complete without a bold red lip. Here we have two gorgeous red lipsticks from Madame Gabriella and Juni Cosmetics. Both brands are cruelty free and organic, meaning you can be at peace knowing even your lipstick is doing a favour for the environment.
A Pair Of Gold Studs
A special finishing touch to any outfit is a pair of earrings, whether simple or something to make a statement. As French style is known to be refined and somewhat understated we found the these two from Adriana Chede and Carolina de Barros were the perfect sophisticated, yet sustainable addition.
A Well Fitting Blazer
We are including both Kjinsen blazers as they would both work beautifully into a Parisian style outfit. Choose the Grey for a more classic look, or the Poppy colourway for an overall more striking look. These blazers are both made from 100% RWS-certified wool. Designed for a slim fit and slightly cinched in waist. With internal shoulder pads for structuring.
A Button Up Shirt
Working as a completely versatile part of the look, the button down shirt can be worn a myriad of ways; casually to a coffee date, to work tucked in some straight leg trousers, or in colder weather with a knit jumper over top. With Nothing Underneath is always our go-to for organic shirts so we have included their classic boyfriend style in poplin white. As part of the new Kjinsen collection on REV, their organic cotton checked shirt in navy is another great addition to a French style closet.
A Shoulder Bag For On the Go
As an ode to the classic Chanel quilted bag, the NARU STUDIOS bags are a chic but much more sustainable option. The fan shoulder bag best captures the essence of that silhouette we know and love. Available in black, grey and camel, this style comes with three zipped compartments in a contrast colour to the outer fabric, and adjustable shoulder strap. Made with organic and 100% biodegradable vegetable tanned bovine leather and 100% Recycled cotton / PET fabric lining.
A Classic Cardigan
Capturing casual but stylish comfort in a garment, the button down cardigan can work as an addition to any outfit. Our favourites include two from the ethical knitwear line, Leap Concept. The ecru option is spun from responsibly sourced Yak-Alpaca blend from the plateaus of Himalayas mountains. The grey option is spun from extra soft traceable cashmere from Inner Mongolia. Both a comfort fit finished with exceptional softness and most importantly, easy on the planet!
