Our Sustainable Guide To French Girl Dressing
We all know and love the classic French girl style, many of us already live by certain principles when it comes to styling and many of those principles can be seen originating from the Parisiennes themselves. These days we like to take inspiration from some of the most iconic French girls to grace modern media: Jeanne Damas, Audrey Tautou, Caroline De Maigret, to name a few. However what we here at REV want to bring you today is a sustainable alternative to all your favourite classic French pieces. From the perfect jean to a bold red lip, we’ve brought you our favourite sustainable lines to help you re-create the French look consciously!

Something Striped
We start with one of the most iconic French patterns: the stripe. Navygreys new OVERSIZE striped sweater in Undyed Ecru with a timeless Navy stripe is the perfect addition to your French wardrobe. Made from 100% British wool certified by Woolmark. Another of our striped favourites, is The Ingleton Gilet in Ecru & Anthracite Stripe by HERD. With its cosy, utilitarian and yet casually elegant appeal, its another classic French Piece.
The Perfect Pair of Trousers
One of the most underestimated French girl staple is a good pair of denim jeans or loose fitting trousers. Seen in almost every outfit, the jean could be of any shade, including black and white, which we personally love. E.L.V. Denim is our long term favourite denim line, not just because they make any figure look incredible. E.L.V. Denim operate from an ideal of ‘no waste’ and create their jeans using discarded denim which otherwise could be destined for landfill. Alternatively, the modern silhouette of Olistic The Labels new Misoki Trousers make the perfect pair of contemporary trousers for an evening our or for an everyday dressy look.
A Bold Red Lip
The look is never complete without a bold red lip. Here we have two gorgeous red lipsticks from Madame Gabriella and Juni Cosmetics. Both brands are cruelty free and organic, meaning you can be at peace knowing even your lipstick is doing a favour for the environment.
A Pair Of Gold Earrings
A special finishing touch to any outfit is a pair of earrings, whether simple or something to make a statement. As French style is known to be refined and somewhat understated, we found the these two from Adriana Chede and Carolina de Barros were the perfect sophisticated, yet sustainable addition. The pieces from these two beautiful brands are handmade locally in London, using ethically sourced materials that are sustainably produced and recycled where possible.
A Button Up Shirt
Working as a completely versatile part of the look, the button down shirt can be worn a myriad of ways; casually to a coffee date, to work tucked in some straight leg trousers, or in colder weather with a knit jumper over top. Our go to for the perfect organic cotton shirt is Grammar who have a beautiful line of staple shirts. These are made using 100% GOTS certified organic cotton by excellent local artisans, craftspeople and women-and minority-owned businesses in New York City. We also love the voluminous puff sleeves and embroidery detailing on Olistic The Labels Scortea Organic Cotton Shirt . Its minimalist yet chic style will suit both a modern look and a more refined evening outfit, a great versatile addition to a French Style closet!
An Oversized Blazer
We are including two of Dāl The Label’s blazers as they would both work beautifully into a Parisian style outfit. Choose the Natural for a more classic look, or the Mist colour-way for an overall more striking look. These blazers are both made from 100% linen and lined with tencel twill. Tailored to a structured silhouette with notched lapels. For a fitted look, we recommend sizing down!
A Shoulder Bag For On the Go
The Leather Handbag in Natural by Marai is super versatile and perfect for a day out in the city. Marai was founded with a mission to repurpose discarded hides, a major byproduct from the food industry, which would otherwise go to waste. Marai uses natural tanning agents from renewable resources and works with responsible partners that are selected with care. They support regional craftsmanship and so exclusively partner with workshops in Switzerland, Germany and Austria. Dāl The Label’s new Structure Tote Bag in Tan is another great sustainable option, crafted by women, for women. It is constructed with a combination of clean, weighted 100% cotton canvas with conscious Nappa Leather detailing. These bags are perfect for carrying around your daily essentials, whether that’s sunscreen, some snacks and even an extra layer for the evenings.
A Classic Cardigan
Capturing casual but stylish comfort in a garment, the button down cardigan can work as an addition to any outfit. Our favourites include those from the ethical knitwear lines HERD and Navygrey. The Lorton Collared Cardigan is Navygreys part of Navygreys latest collection, manufactured in a small factory in Portugal while HERDS Wyre Cardigan in Ecru is proudly knitted by skilled craftspeople in England, using fully traceable, soft Bluefaced Leicester sheep wool. Both a comfort fit finished with exceptional softness and most importantly, easy on the planet!
