Sustainable Pads

While everyone is different, after birth one tends to bleed for around four to six weeks. During this period of postpartum, I could not have lived without the Cora Women products. For the first few weeks of a heavier flow, the Peace-Of-Mind Maxi Overnight Pad was a true essential. For the final weeks of bleeding, The Got-You-Covered Liner was perfect – I hardly knew it was there! All of Cora Women’s pads are made without dyes, fragrances, GMOs, and chlorine – shocking that those things are in some conventional pads!

A Soothing Bath Soak

Once you’re cleared by your doctor or midwife, a relaxing bath is amazing for healing a tired and sore body. It is also a wonderful opportunity to take time for yourself as those first few weeks are all about baby! The Vertly Muscle Soak Bath Salts have been my go-to, as they are made with a soothing and anti-inflammatory blend of dead sea salts, magnesium, arnica, and hemp, which really work on tired muscles. Holding and caring for a baby all day can put a serious strain on the body – trust me! Most nights I don’t have time for my usual pre-baby self-care routine, so combining steps has become integral. I love having oil in my bath to add extra hydration to the skin. If you’ve recently given birth, you’ll know just how dry your skin gets! The Well-Kept Natural Bath Oil in Settle provides incredible hydration and calming aromatherapy. It is a blend of frankincense, chamomile, juniper, and cypress essential oils, which are carried in coconut oil – such a calming and moisturizing combination! In these moments, I try and close my eyes and decompress a bit as life with a newborn can be very overwhelming. But sometimes, my bath time ends up having a bit of company…but those are lovely moments too.

A Comfy Nursing Bra

Trust me when I say it can be an overwhelming feeling when one’s milk comes in. Personally, I struggled with an oversupply at first so a bra that could offer me support was truly essential. As I am breastfeeding on demand, I have found that a comfortable and easy-to-remove nursing bra has been a true essential. The Bodily Everything Bra has been my best friend and I can’t recommend it enough. Unlike so many others, this nursing bra is made from OEKO-TEX certified non-toxic fabric, and is so comfortable and light, you hardly know that it is on. Yet, it offers wonderful support. It was designed with a lactation consultant to optimize breast health and minimize things like mastitis or clogged ducts.

Lots of Muslins

I truly don’t think I could have enough muslin blankets! Between milk, spit-up, and blowouts – we truly go through multiple muslins a day…We usually always leave the house with about three! My favourite are the Softspot Baby swaddle blankets – we use them on the daily. They are made from GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified organic cotton, which makes them so incredibly soft – perfect for a baby’s sensitive skin.

Sensitive Skin Essentials

I like most new moms, use nipple balm and diaper cream every single day (multiple times a day). Mini Bloom’s Toot Toot Balm is the best diaper cream I’ve come across and I can’t recommend it enough. It is an ultra-rich formula that creates a really good barrier between a baby’s skin and the diaper itself, which helps prevent any irritation. Two months in and I can confirm we haven’t had any diaper rash! Mini Bloom also makes an amazing Nipple Balm, which really soothes dry, cracked, or sensitive nipples. The first few weeks of breastfeeding can be incredibly painful – trust me. Nipple balm really helps to ease the pain and tend to any cracks. If you have a new mom in your life, nipple balm is one of the most valuable gifts you can give!
