Our Favourite Eco Hotels in Ibiza
As travel becomes a bit safer, we are thinking a bit about how we will eventually go back to traveling as consciously as possible. After a bit of a rainy summer here in the UK, the sunny islands of Spain have been calling to us and we were thrilled to see so many incredibly eco-friendly hotels in Ibiza. We wanted to share our top five for anyone looking to support sustainable travel that really connects you to the local community and environment.
Finca Can Marti
The most beautiful and serene eco hotel with an emphasis on organic food and ultimate sustainability. At Finca Can Martí they stand for ecology, sustainability, bio-logic, organic and natural. The white-washed, mineral-painted Ibicencan main house has been the heart of Can Martí valley, consisting of 42 acres of agricultural land, for over 400 years. Their permaculture garden is designed following the rules of nature, which means they grow healthy, happy crops sustainably and organically, in harmony with the local environment and resources. They also came up with the island’s first completely natural pool concept back in 2009.
Six Senses Ibiza
This is a luxury hotel that has really started to work on making it’s ethos as coveatbale as it’s aesthetic. Six Senses Ibiza will be the first sustainable BREEAM certified resort in the Balearics. Through careful consideration of the effects that operating systems, materials and purchasing policies have on the environment, Six Senses Ibiza will continue to develop new initiatives and procedures to not just minimize ecological impact but act as a regenerative force for good too. By working with local partners such as the Ibiza Preservation Fund, important preservation and biodiversity projects can continue on land and at sea. 298 solar panels cover 10% of electricity needs. 10 Olympic sized swimming pools of water are saved each year by using modern geothermal cooling systems.40 percent of carbon emissions saved by producing their own renewable energy.
Atzaro
This hotel is a perfect romantic getaway with an emphasis on local everything. With its concept of natural luxury, Atzaró is in harmony with the nature of the island and rooted at its heart. You can taste the flavours of the estate with organic farm to fork food grown in the vegetable garden. All of their spa treatments use estate produced organic products for the treatment rooms, meaning everything is generated as locally and naturally as possible.
Farm La Granja
Born in the Ibizan countryside in 2016, La Granja is a working farmstead and hospitality concept devoted to discourse on farming and food. La Granja adheres to a system known as regenerative agriculture, which aims not merely to farm sustainably but to farm in such a way as to improve the land. Guests learn about regenerative and biodynamic agriculture through workshops, classes and community-based projects that assist in the reactivation of abandoned agricultural lands.
Cas Gasi
This is a beautiful oasis, and Cas Gasi owners Margaret von Korff and Luis Trigueros Juan pride themselves on using as many sustainable techniques and eco-friendly methods as possible in the day-to-day running of the hotel. Since 1995, the property has been inscribed in organic agriculture and today the onsite gardens are a beautiful sight to behold. Via an advanced water cleansing plant, the wastewater from all hotel’s departments (where no bleach is used in the cleaning or washing process) is transformed into clean water for irrigation of the decorative plants and flowers. Their latest innovation has been the energy self-sufficiency of our new villas with photovoltaic panels on their roof.
