What is the meaning of Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a whole-body (holistic) system of medicine that began in India more than 3,000 years ago. Ayurveda means the study of life. It takes a natural approach to health and well-being. This system views the body as a whole.

Ayurveda believes that everyone has unique life forces called doshas. It also states that everything in the universe links together. An imbalance in one part of the body can impact another. If this imbalance isn’t corrected, it may lead to disease and illness.

Ayurveda focuses on nutrition, lifestyle changes, and natural treatments. These include yoga, massage, acupuncture, and herbal medicine. They all work together to promote health and wellbeing. These simple yet effective practices are used to support balance and a return to health. We love the idea that these methods can act as a first port of call to maintain a healthy body from the inside out.

What are the benefits of Ayurvedic skincare?

Ayurvedic skincare detoxes and removes impurities

Ayurvedic skincare focuses on helping the body and skin to get rid of toxins. It promotes gentle changes, such as good nutrition and hydration, to achieve this.

Ayurvedic skincare focuses on inner and outer skin health

A strong focus on diet and internal cleansing (purification) that will help lead to external skin rejuvenation. The skin can often suffer from imbalances in digestion. Insufficient fluid intake can cause dry, dehydrated skin. Inflammation in the GI tract can cause extra heat. This may lead to skin eruptions and inflammation.

Ayurvedic skincare reduces stress on the skin

Ayurvedic skincare aims to lower stress, which can affect your face. It includes practices like meditation and daily yoga. Exercise helps manage stress and boosts your overall health. Remember, taking care of your body can improve your skin’s appearance!

Ayurvedic skincare utilizes non toxic and organic ingredients

Herbs and plants are a big part of Ayurveda. They offer non-toxic skincare options that help nourish the skin naturally. As a general rule, Ayurveda only uses organic, 100% natural products on the skin. If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin!

Our Ayurvedic skincare ritual with UMM

We are delighted to introduce you to UMM. A natural beauty and skincare line made with Ayurvedic philosophies, ingredients, and principles. Follow our four simple steps to an Ayurvedic ritual below so that you can start practicing at home!

1. Pre-shower ritual

We start our Ayurvedic skincare ritual by setting the scene with UMM’s wonderful Ayurvedic candle to set the scene of relaxation. This all-natural candle draws inspiration from seasonal rhythms. It offers the lovely scents of Indian flowers, like jasmine. When you light the Diya jasmine candle, take a moment to pause. Reconnect and appreciate the beauty of everyday moments. Follow this with their bath massage oil for self-massage (Abyangha) that starts at the crown and you work down to your feet. By doing this before bathing/showering, it allows for lymphatic drainage, central nervous system stimulation, and increased circulation and blood flow. On top of that, it protects your skin barrier from drying out from the bath/shower water!

2. Shower Ritual

Next, apply UMM’s exfoliating face mask. Then, use the exfoliating body scrub. The masque can be applied before showering and rinsed off, or as a separate ritual. This will help remove impurities from your skin. The Exfoliating Body Scrub is a luxurious, all-natural, oil-based scrub. It deeply hydrates and gently exfoliates with extra-fine particles. Plus, it features soothing essential oils and pure 24k gold. The exfoliating face masque brightens and revitalizes skin. It gently exfoliates and gives an instant boost of radiance. The masque helps clear pores, remove dead skin cells, lighten scars, and improve skin health.

We cleanse in the shower next using UMM’s simple, plastic-free bar soap. The Ayurvedic soap bar is power-packed with therapeutic and balancing Ayurvedic herbs. It combats clogged pores and quenches thirsty skin for a clear, radiant complexion. This special bar blends calming goat milk with rich organic oils. These include sesame, coconut, olive, shea, and flaxseed. It also includes healing herbs, turmeric and ashwagandha, for extra benefits.
