Ingredients from your pantry can be perfect for face masks.

Skin Prep

When using any mask, it is essential you prep the skin before application. I love a double cleanse before any treatment so that there is no dirt or bacterial going into my pores. Start with an oil cleanser, like the Chia Seed Cleansing Oil by Voyage Organics to gently dissolve dirt and makeup from the skin and remove with a damp cloth. Follow with your second cleanse, like the Nourishing Cleanser by Albiva, which is suitable for all skin types and removes daily grime without ever stripping the skin of its natural oils.

Moisturising - Shiva Rose's Plumping Goddess Nectar Mask

You will need:

¼ Cup avocado

¼ Cup mashed banana

¼ Cup raw honey

¼ Cup yogurt

I discovered this mask when I first got my hands-on Shiva Rose’s insightful book, Whole BeautyIt’s a wonderfully creamy mask that is so easy to make.

Simply mash up the avocado and banana and mix it with the honey and yogurt until it is a pale green mask. The avocados and bananas in this mask work to hydrate the skin with antioxidants and vitamins while the yogurt and honey give the skin lots of probiotics and powerful enzymes.

Honey is incredibly antibacterial, helping to heal breakouts. I simply apply honey straight onto breakouts if they are particularly bad. Yogurt is a true superfood, for the body and the skin. It contains zinc, which helps to bring down inflammation and boost cell reproduction – great if you are trying to fade scarring.

Leave the mask on for twenty minutes.

Exfoliating - With Wild Source Apothecary's Radiance Mask

You will need:

2-3 tsp of Wild Source Apothecary’s Radiance Mask

Enough herbal water to thicken the powder.

With a blend of pink clay, rosehip, geranium, and organic fruit extracts, the Wild Source Apothecary Radiance Mask is the perfect gentle exfoliating mask. Perfect for all skin types, even sensitive skin types. This mild exfoliant contains antioxidant-rich ingredients, like elderberries and rosehip. The pink clay within this product smooths and balances the skin, to improve the skin’s texture. The beauty of this powdered mask is that it can be mixed with anything.

I recommend mixing it with herbal water, such as the Rose Flower Facial Mist by Voyage Organics. You can also use filtered water, or chilled herbal tea, such as chamomile for a more soothing effect.

Simply mix a few teaspoons of the mask with your chosen liquid to create a rich, creamy texture, that isn’t too watery. Leave on for around 15 minutes. If you find you get any spots on your chest, apply some of this mask there too.

Deep Cleaning – With Sarisha's Deep Cleansing Mask

You will need:

2-3 tsp of Sarisha’s Deep Cleansing Mask.

Enough apple cider vinegar or green tea to thicken the powder.

If you are finding your skin has been congested, this is the perfect recipe to purge the skin. The Deep Cleansing powered mask by Sarisha is a godsend for acne-prone skin types. Formulated with French green clay, activated charcoal, tea tree oil, and hydrating oils, this magical mask deeply cleanses while soothing irritated skin.

If your skin isn’t too sensitive, mixing apple cider vinegar into this mask will intensify the detoxifying element of this mask. Apple cider vinegar is an incredible antiseptic and antibacterial, which helps to clear up acne and balance the skin’s natural pH.

If your skin is more sensitive, I would recommend green tea instead. A superhero ingredient, green tea is full of antioxidants and is wonderful at reducing inflammation. Next time you make a cup of green tea, make a bit extra to stick in the fridge to mix with your next face mask.

Healing - My Recipe

You will need:

2 tsp Pomegranate juice

1 tbsp Oatmeal

1 tbsp Yogurt

If you have over picked your skin or had the heating on for too long inside, and your skin feels a bit sore – this is the mask for you. Oats soothe inflamed irritated skin as they contain anti-inflammatory properties. They also help to absorb excess oil, which may lead to acne.

Pomegranate juice is one of my kitchen staples, as I love to add it to any face mask. Pomegranate juice is full of vitamin C, which helps to regenerate and repair the skin. As oats, pomegranate juice, and yogurt all contain anti-inflammatory properties and all help to gently exfoliate the skin, this mask is a powerhouse to help treat angry skin.

If you are suffering from breakouts, pop on this mask twice a week for twenty minutes to soothe the skin.
