There are many factors that can influence your skin. Genetics, age, the environment, and other lifestyle factors such as stress, diet and exercise can all affect the overall health and condition of your complexion.

The skin is our body’s largest organ, so we think it deserves to be treated with the best products, prioritising natural and organic ingredients. By opting for a clean skincare routine, we can make sure that our skin receives nourishment without exposure to potentially harmful chemicals or synthetic additives. Embracing natural and organic skincare not only promotes the health and well-being of our skin but also aligns with a holistic approach to self-care and environmental sustainability. If you’re considering adding products to your skincare routine or begining your skincare journey, consistency and patience are key. You will only achieve results after some time so it’s important to stick with it, particularly if you’re wanting to tackle a specific skincare concern.

Aging Skin

As you age, your skin naturally undergoes changes, including decreased collagen production, reduced elasticity, and increased dryness. The environment can also have a significant impact on the appearance of your skin if you are regularly exposed to the sun or pollution, which can lead to premature aging of your skin. Although aging is a natural part of life, incorporating a consistent clean skincare routine can help slow down its visible effects on the skin, helping you to maintain a youthful and radiant glow. It’s worth mentioning that it’s never too late to start your skincare journey!

Here at Rev, one of things we stand by is investing in a good facial oil that nourishes and intensely hydrates your skin, as dehydrated skin is more prone to accentuating fine lines and premature signs of aging. Facial oils are ideal for locking in moisture and usually contain antioxidants that replenish the skin cells, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Featured here is the Seres Boosted Collagen Serum ethically made by Ilody. Collagen plays a vital role in maintaining the skin’s firmness, smoothness and overall appearance. It forms a network of fibers that support the skin’s structure and help prevent sagging and wrinkles. Collagen production naturally declines with age, which is part of the reason as to why we start to develop fine lines, wrinkles and loss of elasticity. Collagen is therefore a popular ingredient in skincare products and can really help to reduce signs of aging. This emulsion serum is designed to boost collagen, increasing the skin’s elasticity and plumpness in order to reduce the appearance of fine lines for firmer looking skin. It also works to improve the skin’s moisture barrier, helping to prevent dehydration and protecting against other environmental stressors.

Another product we’d really recommend to anyone wanting to reduce the signs of aging is Oio Lab Anti-Ageing Night Facial Treatment Oil. Oio Lab connect organic plant extracts with active ingredients offering clinically proven results, without the use of synthetic additives and preservatives. This facial treatment oil contains botanical extracts, organic oils and a high dose of hydrogenated retinol which stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid (a hydrating compound) while enhancing skin elasticity. It is high in organic, cold-pressed cranberry, evening primrose, baobab and Sacha Inchi seed oils which support the skin’s natural regeneration processes. The Night elixir helps to tighten the skin, counteract the signs of aging and enhances a healthy skin colour.

Blemish-Prone Skin

At some point throughout our lives, the majority of people have experienced imperfections, blemishes and having acne-prone skin. Struggling with your skin can have a significant impact on your self esteem, confidence and leave you feeling pretty deflated. Although having blemishes is normal, skincare can be a great tool for managing blemish-prone skin, so you can feel and look your best.

Acne-prone skin can be caused by a number of factors, but is often due to an overproduction of oil by the sebaceous glands and the accumulation of dead skin cells or bacteria on your skin. In turn, this can lead to pores becoming clogged and the formation of blemishes. It’s important to consider dietary factors too, as certain foods such as dairy products or diets rich in processed foods or sugar may exacerbate acne or blemishes. Hormonal changes and genetics also play a significant role, and if you’re having recurring problems that won’t go away, we’d recommend consulting your doctor or a professional dermatologist for some advice.

Key skincare practices for managing blemish prone skin includes using a gentle cleanser to remove excess oil, dirt and impurities without stripping the skin’s natural moisture barrier. This is particularly important for those who regularly wear makeup or SPF. You can also use a cleanser specifically targeted to exfoliate the skin such as the Resurfacing Botanical Cleanser by FaTH Skincare. This is a deep-cleansing treatment that combines gentle exfoliation with skin-buffering enzymes to thoroughly refresh and renew the skin. It is formulated with fine-grain sustainable bamboo fibers, pomegranate enzymes and white clay to lift dead skin cells and impurities, while nourishing and hydrating the skin for a complete complexion reset. Both products featured are 100% vegan, organic and cruelty free.

We’d also recommend using a nourishing moisturiser that also works to rejuvenate and repair the skin, while reducing the appearance of pores and blemishes. The ECM Advanced Repair Nourish & Heal Moisturiser is designed to stimulate cell regeneration using the skin’s own cell biology. It’s packed with active ingredients that promote cell turnover and improve the overall tone and texture of the complexion. Team Dr. Joseph’s Daily Purifying Cream is also ideal for oily or blemish-prone skin. It is formulated to purify the skin, refine any texture and unclog pores. This organic formula helps to reduce blackheads and impurities for a pure clean and clear complexion.

Sensitive Skin

Skincare for sensitive skin requires a gentle and minimalist approach to avoid triggering any irritation or inflammation. Everyone’s skin is unique, so it may take some trial and error to find the right skincare routine for your sensitive skin. We’d recommend avoiding products which contain active ingredients or exfoliating properties as sensitive skin is more likely to react to these types of products. However if you do choose to exfoliate, using mild exfoliants sparingly and avoiding harsh scrubs is the best way to do so. Synthetic fragrances can also be a common irritant for sensitive skin so it’s best to choose fragrance-free or naturally fragranced products where possible, with the best organic ingredients.

Focusing on hydration and using products to maintain a healthy skin barrier is a good starting point. For those who have sensitive skin, the skin barrier is a lot more prone to being weakened, causing irritation and redness. Hydrating the skin helps to replenish moisture, strengthen the skin barrier and soothe any irritation. Once your skin is sufficiently hydrated and more resilient, you can gradually introduce other skincare products, such as serums, treatments, and sunscreens, to address specific concerns like aging, pigmentation, or acne. However, always patch-test new products and introduce them slowly to minimise the risk of irritation.

Dry Skin

Dry skin can be caused by a number of factors, one of the most significant being your genetics, which can influence the skin’s natural hydration levels, lipid production and overall barrier function. In addition, as people age, the skin also tends to produce less natural oils and becomes thinner, leading to slower skin cell turnover. Environmental factors also play a role, particularly going into colder seasons with cold or dry weather, low humidity levels or overexposure to the sun. Even indoor heating or air conditioning can contribute to moisture loss and exacerbate dry skin.

We’d recommend a gentle, hydrating cleanser that removes dirt and impurities without stripping the skin of its natural oils. Look for a creamy or lotion-based cleanser that contains a natural hyaluronic acid or glycerine, which will help to cleanser the skin while providing hydration, leaving it feeling soft and supple after washing.

FaTH Skincare’s Botanical Cream Cleanser uses botanical extracts to help nourish and hydrate the skin while gently removing make-up. The camellia seed oil moisturises the skin while helping to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Its high levels of collagen boost the skin’s ability to retain moisture, ideal for dry skin. The aloe leaf extract is also a super hydrator, which draws moisture from the air and helps the skin to retain optimum hydration levels. As dry skin can also be prone to blemishes, the use of kaolin white clay helps to draw out these impurities from deep in the pores, leaving skin thoroughly purified and refined.

We’d also recommend a rich moisturiser or facial oil, specifically formulated for dry skin. Natural ingredients such as shea butter, cocoa butter and jojoba oil help to nourish and hydrate the skin deeply. They create a protective barrier on the skin’s surface, preventing moisture loss and help to repair the skin’s natural moisture barrier. Applying a moisturiser generously on damp skin after cleansing, will help its absorption as the skin is more permeable, allowing it to penetrate more deeply and be absorbed more efficiently.

Team Dr. Joseph’s Ultra Intense Moisturizing Cream contains both shea butter and hyaluronic acid, nourishing extracts which work to replenish the skin’s moisture depots, ideal for dry and dehydrated skin. Shea butter is rich in fatty acids, which are essential in maintaining the skin’s natural moisture barrier, helping it to seal in moisture and keep the skin hydrated. It’s also rich in vitamins A and E, as well antioxidants which helps the skin to become more resilient, supporting its natural repair processes.

Normal Skin

All skin is normal, but when talking about specific skin types, normal skin refers to skin that is healthy, well-balanced, with an even skin tone and without any significant skin care concerns. Normal skin is typically not overly sensitive or reactive to external factors such as changes in temperature or skin care products. It can therefore tolerate a variety of skincare ingredients without experiencing adverse reactions. If you’re unsure where to start with choosing the right products to use, an organic eye cream can make the world of difference, if used consistently. This is particularly the case with everyday stresses, coupled with a lack of sleep if you’re having a particularly busy month!

The skin around your eyes is thinner and more delicate than the rest of the face, making it more susceptible to dryness and dehydration. Eye creams are often formulated with ingredients that provide intense hydration to this sensitive area, helping to combat fine lines and wrinkles. Some also contain caffeine or peptides which reduce puffiness or dark circles by promoting lymphatic drainage. Irene Forte’s Olive Eye Cream is clinically proven to improve the skin’s hydration, driven by a vitamin B complex, hyaluronic acid acid and aloe leaf juice. The antioxidant-rich upcycled olive seed oil helps to smooth and protect the delicate eye area, while the penta-phyto complex helps to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and dark circles.

Since normal skin tends to be less reactive, incorporating a new serum can be a great way to enhance your complexion without causing irritation. Oio Lab’s Supercharged Glow Facial Serum features advanced botanical extracts and skin-illuminating minerals to leave the skin naturally glowing and radiant. It is supercharged with natural extracts from tremella mushroom, honey locust seeds, sustainably obtained rock samphire – patented skin elasticity enhancers and naturally derived moisture boosting botanical ingredients – to promote a healthy-looking complexion and visible effects after just 1 hour from the serum application.

Overall, understanding your skin type allows you to make more informed choices about the correct products to use. Different skin types require different products and treatments to maintain, balance and address concerns effectively, minimising irritation and maximising the benefits of these natural ingredients. It can take a bit of trial and error but once you start to see positive changes in your skin, it can be really rewarding and more often than not, instills a new found sense of confidence!
